Built on a remote and very beautiful site just above a creek in Aspen, Colorado, this contemporary mountain retreat enjoys a strong connection with the site and the surrounding environment. It was designed and built by
CCY Architects and it’s organized into three big volumes connected to each other by transparent bridges. The house sits at the edge of the site, overlooking a steep ravine and a distant valley
Each of the volumes cantilevers slightly over a solid concrete base, emphasizing even more the abrupt and at the same time wonderfully breathtaking views of the ravine, valley and the distant mountains.
The architecture and overall design are simple and follow the general pattern of a contemporary project
The living room is mostly frame by glass, with a fireplace section serving as a focal point
The rugged landscape plays an important role in how
this beautiful hillside house was designed, its orientation, overall layout as well as the interior design and the ambiance inside. The volumes contain a spacious living area, a guest zone, a master bedroom suite and a series of secondary spaces. The open plan social area features a fireplace framed by full-height windows that bring the outdoors in and connect the space to the exterior deck. The kitchen is situated slightly higher than the living spaces and this gives it a sense of individuality
The beautiful marble countertop extends all the way down to the floor on one side, like a waterfall counter
The three main volumes are connected by these glass-framed hallways which strengthen the indoor-outdoor connection
The master bedroom has a two-sided fireplace which doubles as a space divider
The master bedroom has a
fireplace divider which makes the entire room look and feel super warm and cozy. The kitchen has its own semi-private area on a slightly elevated floor plan. It features an amazing marble countertop and a waterfall-style island. As for the rest of the interior design, glass and concrete are the main materials used throughout, complemented by a set of stylish neutral colors. The marble wall in the bathroom looks like an abstract painting, creating a sophisticated vibe
A third fireplace is built into this custom-built wall unit which marks the separation between the floor plans
Native vegetation surrounds the house, seamlessly connecting it to the rugged landscape
This is a perfect example of a house designed to take full advantage of its location
